We had a great class – and lots of fun – sharing dinner and conversation is the highlight of all good days. We experimented with different portions of the Thai spices to see its effect and tailored them to our taste. The food and company were five star!

Ladies Night in the Kitchen

This class with Patel and Seema was a blast – both were really into cooking, enjoying good food, and having fun. We had so much fun that the three hour class was over in no time and we spent a lot of extra time making cute presentations with the mango sticky rice. It was really interesting to talk about the differences and the similarity between Thai and Indian food, especially how spices are used – I think we both learned a lot and in the process got to know each other. I love this type of class and look forward to the next one.

Papaya Salad and Mango Sticky Rice

I decided to teach how to make papaya salad for the first time because one of my students requested it for his father's birthday. Teaching how to make papaya is more fun than I though. The fun part starts from preparing the papaya, the pounding and seasoning. I teach in two difference way- Thai traditional way with the wood mortar and American way of tossing in a mixing bowl.
a good thing about papaya salad - it has a combination favor - sweet, sour, salty and spicy, so everyone can play and adjust these to their own taste.

However, it doesn't metter how full the students are from the appitizer and entree, when it comes to dessert time-they never say no for the mango sticky rice. An interesting thing I've noticed many class is the students get more creative and having fun playing with the mango - this part of the class turns to a work of art. The dessert turns out great and with a nice presentation as you see in those pictures. It is hard to say who is the winner this time, don't you think???

Mango sticky rice is always a big hit in my my class!! This is the only picture that all students are in the kitchen at the same time struggling to get dessert!!!!!!

Fresh Spring Rolls

This is the frist time we made Fresh Spring Rolls with peanut sauce for dipping.
Everyone had fun creating their own rolls and picking the fresh vegetable they most liked.
I couldn't believe one of them ate three rolls and still had room for Pad Thai and dessert!!

I think the most enjoyable thing to do with friends is to cook and eat together. So after several years of doing this in San Francisco my friends have urged me to try having classes to teach simple, practical Thai meal preparation. I am not a master chef, but what I cook is simple, great tasting everyday food. Many people want to include this in their everyday cooking – but need to know where and what to buy and how to cook it. This is exactly what my class will provide! In the three hour class this is what we will do:
  • Shopping - I will review the best markets in San Francisco and brands for Thai spices, vegetables, rice, and other ingredients

  • Food preparation – We will chop, peel, mix, etc all of the ingredients for each dish and review the spices to use for each dish

  • Rice and noodle cooking – These basic components are used in every Thai meal – there preparation is the first basic part of Thai cooking

  • Wok cooking – the fun part! Each person will do hands on wok cooking – adding the spices and ingredients in the correct sequence and time.

  • Dining – we all eat what we cook
this class you will be fully competent and brave enough to do a great tasting Thai meal on your own – and during the class you will be taught and grilled (ha-ha) in Thai food names and simple food ordering phrases you can use. Class size is limited to 6 to 10 persons so that each person is involved in all aspects of the food preparation and cooking and open for the night class- for other day time please contact me .

Shopping Market

Making authentic Thai food in other country is so hard to get the right ingredients but here I am in San Francisco where I can find anything I want to make my food taste real authentic Thai.
I always make a trip to The Asian marking every week and such a fun time for me . This is my favor shopping market store on Crement St. where I can find all ingredients I want is " Richmon Newmay Wah ". Although, sometime you can't get a fresh one but will have in the dry one for you to use instead. How amazing to get the best price from long way grow in this kind of market. In additional, You are not only can get the Asian goods but also some American ingredients such as the Bell Paper, Carrot, Broccoli ., ext even wines. Let me know what , can't you find would love to help:))

Khai Tun

Khai Tun is a light dish usually eaten with rice or by itself as an appetizer. It is made by steaming eggs that have been mixed with some Thai seasoning and water. I also add chili and shrimp with the eggs to make it more tasty. The main thing is to not to over steam it so it is more like a thick soup.

Corn Pudding

The main sweet favor from this recipes is corn.
It is important to pick the right corn and cook it properly to get the best crunchy and sweet juice of corn. On top with coconut milk to get a good combination favor at the end.

Fresh Spring Roll

Fresh Spring Roll with Peanut Sauce. I think this appetizer is the most easy and healthy for
people who love to eat fresh vegetable. The stuffing is any vegetable or meat you like - for the one I made are lettuce, green onion, carrot, cucumber, mint, vermicelli noodle and shrimp. Fresh Spring Roll can serve either with sweet sauce or peanut sauce.

Beef Salad

Salad in the US means lettuce and vegetables that is the start of the meal, but for Thai people salad - called "Larb" - can be the main dish of the meal. Most of the Thai salids have prawns, chicken, pork, or beef with the rice and side of vegetables such as cucumber. One of most popular salids is Pork Salad or " Larb Moo" in Thai, but for today I will make it with organic ground beef. The salad sauce is made with a combinations of sweet, spicy and sour ingredients and is the most popular dish for the North East Part of Thailand.

This was the reopening of my Cooking Class after recovering from falling down the stairs. The seven students were great and we had a lot of fun learning how to make Tom Yum Shrimp, Pad Thai and Mango Sticky rice. We also learned how to make the popular drink -Thai Ice Tea. It was a special night for one of the students, Eric who was celebrating his birthday, so we surprised him with a chocolate cake. After cooking we stuffed our selves with food and drink. Before we knew it 3 hours had passed, but to get everyone moving again I gave them a bit of dance lesson to get some exercise - starting slow with a Waltz then speeding up with some Cha Cha Cha and Salsa. I think I may have had even more fun than the students!

Trip to Krabi was tough for me because of my foot problem but it didn't stop me to go out and had fun with my friends as you see in the pictures. Krabi is the island in South of Thailand where you can find the clear water and stunning view of the beach. The interesting thing we saw was the water after 4 pm., the water in the middle of the beach go down into two side. It made the trail for people can walk across to difference side of the beach as you can see in the picture on the left of the bottom line. People are very nice and best seafood. I would love to go back but next time with the good function of my foot:)

Cooking with mom

Posted by PicasaWhen I was visiting my mom in Thailand, she showed me some secret recipes:).
Those are very good for four dished that I love to share with you.

"Nam Prik Ong"
It is popular paste original from the North of Thailand.
Although, it is a one type of chili paste but is not spicy.
The most appealing for the dish is from fire the ground chili with the hot oil just a minute to put the last thing for the ingredient..
Sever with a lot of vegetable on the side..

It is the easiest food I ever made!!! It call "Kei Tun"
It made from steam egg mix with any kind of meat and Thai seasoning.

I learn this one because of my husband like this noodle from Thai restaurant in SF. We call dry noodle
which is the main food for lunch in Thailand.
You can put on top with any kind of meat ball but today put pork ball. It look like "Pho" which is Vietnamese noodle dish with bean sprout is good combination..

Hot pot for big prawn cover with the seasoning silver noodle. The smell of ginger underneath of the pot melt it into the prawn and noodle make it very tasty.
Sever with the seafood sauce actually the best way to eat..Yumm
